It won't be long now till my six lilac bushes will be covered in big beautiful blooms!
I planted them about 3 or 4 years ago when they were all small enough to fit, laying on their side, in the back of my Honda Civic (with the back seat down!) and now they all tower over me! After the blooms are gone this year, I am going to cut the tops of the plants to encourage them to spread out in their growth. I never knew they'd get as tall as they are now.
Mine are in various stages of looking close to yours - one's ahead and the blooms just started opening, a few look ready to burst open, and one seems really behind. The one that's just opening? I was mowing the lawn yesterday, stopped just long enough to stick my nose into the blooms - and couldn't smell A THING from it. I'm hoping that's because I was already smelling too much grass, or because maybe the flowers aren't as strongly scented as they're JUST opening? I'll have to give it another snort this weekend...
